Violent Police Response to Protests Against Police Brutality
September 5, 2020
CW: All links lead to videos and photographs. Some, but not all, of the content of those videos and images includes graphic violence.

On the 100th night of the #BlackLivesMatter protests in Portland, Oregon I collected a relatively small number of tweets (six of the hundreds produced each night) with videos and photographs showing how false the counter-narratives surrounding the protests are.

Over and over again, throughout the country, protests against police brutality are met with outrageous police violence.

If you still need proof there's absolutely no correlation between police arrests and criminal activity, the person in this video is a medic. They were not breaking any laws. They were not in the street. They were arrested only because out-of-town cops hate Portland protesters. The cops are racist white supremacists who refuse to believe that #BlackLivesMatter.

This is what Portland Police and Oregon State police do to nonviolent protesters, smash their faces into the pavement and stain the streets with their blood.

None of the grenades, smoke bombs, and other munitions used against peaceful protesters last night, none of the overtime paid to Portland Police and Oregon State Police was to "protect" the public or even a publicly-owed building. No criminal activity was occurring. No lives were at risk.

All the force, armament, injuries to protesters that will result in city payouts when lawsuits are filed, all of this was because Portland cops don't like civilians near their private clubhouse at 1868 N. Lombard Street.

And make no mistake, Portland and Oregon taxpayers, not the cops, will foot the bill for all of this, including lawsuits and overtime. Meanwhile dangerous white supremacists wave guns and shoot at people downtown with impunity because police claim they don't have the resources to interfere. The resources that should go into protecting Portland from out-of-town, armed, criminal invaders instead are used to protect the privately-owned building of the brotherhood association which keeps killer cops on the job.

This "Current standoff" video shows what preceded the massive, unnecessary, inappropriate use of force: people exercising their First Amendment right to "freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances". No criminal activity. No violence on the part of the protesters. But the snowflake cops don't like being confronted with their own inhumanity and avarice, so they attacked.

Just how many times do unarmed, non-violent individuals have to get shot in the back, whether with live rounds or impact weapons, before people start understanding it's the cops who are the criminals?

People on the sidewalk, following police instructions, tackled and thrown to the ground negate the meaningless argument "well if only they had obeyed the police".

The only law breaking here is the cops violating numerous state and federal laws as well as their own bureau's policies.
