Never Underestimate Power of Politicians to Make Things Worse
August 31, 2020
Never underestimate the power of a politician to make things much, much, much worse.

Cops in Portland, Oregon have been harassing, beating, gassing, shooting, and arresting people protesting police brutality for almost 100 days, now. And the politicians, from the mayor to the governor, refuse to do anything to even discourage the police from their rampant violence. They're so clueless, they don't even understand the outrageousness of a brutal police response to protests about police brutality.

Instead of constructive action, #TearGasTed and #KluelessKate spew meaningless words, tell lies, regurgitate police fabrications, and blame everyone but the cops and themselves for the problems. Now another man is dead. But, this time he's a white supporter of the Nazi in the White House so Oregon Governor Kate Brown is finally going to do something.

She's going to ignore the cause of the problems, she's going to ignore the perpetrators of the violence, and she's going to put more money into attacking the citizens of Portland with military-grade weapons.

Her "plan" to bring police violence to an end in Portland is to engender more police violence by supplementing the Portland Police Bureau’s resources with additional local and state law enforcement personnel.

Not helpful. One has to wonder where she's getting her information. The Portland Police? The mainstream media that regurgitates the cops' lies about what occurs nightly on the streets of Portland?

Content warning, links lead to videos showing graphic violence.

Someone needs to sit her down and show her some of the footage, like these half a dozen cops holding one individual down and repeatedly punching them while trying to prevent reporters from filming. Or these cops tackling two people, throwing them to the ground, and violently arresting them. They were standing on the sidewalk. Where the cops told them to stand.

These are just two incidents. From one night. A night during which the cops arrested 29 more people than they arrested when white supremacists sprayed bear mace, shot paint balls, and fired live rounds Saturday August 22; three times the number arrested on August 29 when white supremacists maced, shot, and drove into people with vehicles.

The politicians keep talking about how someone needs to "arrest and charge those individuals who have engaged in violent or destructive acts and endangered public safety". But, no one is even willing to acknowledge that the violent and destructive acts endangering public safety are those committed by the police.

Night after night, police respond to protesters singing, chanting, and calling them names with horrific violence.

You can't "stop the cycle of violence" perpetuated by police with a "unified law enforcement plan" when the vast majority of the violence is committed by law enforcement on people exercising their First Amendment right to "to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievance".

Hey, Kate. Why don't you fly over to Wasco County and dump jet fuel on the White River fire. You couldn't possibly do more damage.
